Yacht & Commercial Vessel Surveyor

The main focus of the role will be to undertake pre-delivery inspections and new build survey projects at shipyards in the UK and across Europe.  This involves appraisal of proposed specifications and systems arrangements at the early contractual stages, monitoring inspections throughout build for quality control and progress reporting.  This culminates in a pre-delivery inspection process comprising final specification review, sea trials, full systems testing, interior and exterior cosmetic inspections with subsequent sign off inspections to ensure 100% completion prior to dispatch.

Other aspects of the role, which may be developed over time include pre-purchase and insurance surveys, tonnage measurement and commercial compliance examinations subject to the candidate’s experience and interests.

Candidate requirements:

  • Manage survey schedules proactively through direct communication with shipyards and planning of own travel arrangements.
  • Operate within agreed authorities, inspection and H&S standards.
  • Clear customer focus and ability to liaise with clients on varying technical levels.
  • Maintain positive relationships with our clients to ensure long term business growth.
  • Working remotely as an individual and as part of a team, undertaking regular overseas travel.
  • Respond and work flexibly, balancing work and life priorities to ensure reporting deadlines are met.
  • Take responsibility for personal development.
  • IT literate with strong report writing ability.
  • Fluent English language written and verbal ability.
  • Hold a current UK driving license.
  • Candidates must live within (or be willing to relocate to) a commutable distance of the company’s head office in Southampton.
  • All EU Citizens currently based in the UK will require pre-settlement status.

We recognise that there are many different qualifications and experiences that suit an individual to a career in marine surveying.  Examples of relevant experience that may be considered for the role include:

  • Practising marine surveyor or past experience in a similar role.
  • Boat building / maintenance / superintendency / quality control experience.
  • Seagoing experience.
  • Relevant degree in marine surveying, marine manufacturing, naval architecture or similar.
  • Supporting qualifications / diplomas in marine surveying backed-up with practical experience.

Cargo Surveyor

The focus of the role will be to oversee the loading and discharge of breakbulk, out of gauge and containerised cargoes, project cargo, loss adjusting, insurance and damage surveys, dangerous goods inspections and produce inspections.  Subject to experience or following training, a supporting role may be developed to assist the commercial surveying sector to include draft surveys, bunker surveys and on/off hire.

Candidate requirements:

  • Plan and attend cargo operations, inspections and meetings, managing schedules proactively.
  • Plan cargo lifting and securing operations and preparation of lashing plans.
  • Ability to undertake loadmaster and slinger / signaller role in cargo lifting operations or develop with experience and training.
  • Management of a caseload from instruction to completion.
  • Maintain high standards of communication with team members and principals in a timely and concise manner.
  • Respond and work flexibly, balancing work and life priorities to ensure reporting deadlines are met.
  • Operate within agreed authorities, inspection and H&S standards, acting in the best interests of principals at all times.
  • Maintain positive relationships with our clients to ensure long term business growth.
  • Working remotely as an individual and as part of a team, undertaking travel as required primarily across the UK south coast and Europe on occasion.
  • Take responsibility for personal development.
  • IT literate with strong report writing ability.
  • Fluent English language written and verbal ability.
  • Hold a current UK driving license.
  • Candidates must live within (or be willing to relocate to) a commutable distance of the company’s head office in Southampton.
  • All EU Citizens currently based in the UK will require pre-settlement status.
